WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippines, along with the ASEAN Spouses Circle of Washington, D.C. (ASC-DC), showcased its vibrant and diverse cultural heritage as part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the ASEAN Culture Day 2026, held on 14 October 2026 at the Silver Spring Civic Building in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Under the theme “Threads of ASEAN Sisterhood: From Traditional to Modern Attire, Weaving Peace Across the World,” the event gathered everyone from the ASEAN Spouses Circle, the ASEAN community, the diplomatic corps, its cultural partners, and the general public in a celebration of Southeast Asia’s rich traditions, creativity, and shared cultural heritage.

The main event was a fashion show featuring the traditional, modern, and contemporary attire of ASEAN countries. Each participating country expressed it all on the runway and brought to life the stories, craftsmanship, and traditions reflected in its coutures and textile traditions.

The Philippines featured the Maria Clara, the Terno with its distinctive butterfly sleeves, a modern Barong Tagalog, and traditional Maranao and Tausug attire. The presentation traced different expressions of Philippine dress that presented the little known diversity, artistry, and craftsmanship found across the country, including Muslim Mindanao.

A Philippine cultural booth was also available for guests to get a close-up look and learn more about Philippine textiles, attire, craftsmanship, cuisine, and cultural heritage.

ASEAN Culture Day 2026 underscored the role of culture in fostering friendship, mutual understanding, and stronger connections among the peoples of Southeast Asia and the wider international community.

The ASEAN Spouses Circle DC (ASC-DC) is an independent organization that complements the work of the ASEAN Committee in Washington, D.C. (ACW). Its mission is to foster ASEAN identity, strengthen solidarity among its members, and promote mutual understanding between ASEAN and the American people through cultural and socio-development initiatives.
