On October 2, 2024, the Embassy of the Philippines welcomed top officers and members from the Mabuhay Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on promoting the health and well-being of elderly Filipinos. Mabuhay Foundation President Rita Hammond and its elderly members called on Deputy Chief of Mission Jaime Ramon Ascalon, Jr. and Consul General Donna Rodriguez to engage, discuss, and celebrate senior wellness within the elderly DMV community.
A second visit to the Embassy by the Mabuhay Foundation on October 4,2024 featured a special flag retreat ceremony led by Consul General Rodriguez with the elderly Filipinos, a short guided history tour of the chancery annex, and a presentation on the consular services and the role the Embassy plays in supporting the Filipino community, particularly Filipino senior citizens and their direct descendants, in the United States. The highlight of the day was an energetic standing Zumba exercise held in the embassy’s halls, promoting active aging and wellness for the elderly participants.
The event reinforced the embassy’s commitment to fostering health and companionship within the Filipino senior community, underscoring the importance of engagement, both socially and physically, to enrich the lives of elderly Filipinos.
