The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, DC. through Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) held the 2023 OFW Family Day Celebration at the Xavier Lower School, Nassau, Bahamas on December 10, 2023.
Around 200 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families participated in the family day event that showcased the exceptional talents of OFWs competing in the Talentadong Migranteng Pilipino, a talent contest on impersonating popular Filipino and international artists. The event also featured delightful song and dance renditions from members of the Filipino community in the island.
Labor Attaché Saul De Vries said that OFW Family Day is celebrated every year in the Philippines and all over the world in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices of OFW families. It was, however, the first-ever celebration to be held in the Caribbean region, he added.
Welfare Officer Mae Codilla, meanwhile, noted that 65 OFWs who attended the event brought home cash and in-kind raffle prizes courtesy of OWWA and Alere Care USA. We made the event more fun and memorable by giving prizes to lucky attendees through raffle draws, she added.
The celebration was organized in tandem with the Filipino Association of the Bahamas (FAB) led by Florita Viterbo, and the Overseas Filipino Workers International (OFWI) headed by Chris Burgos. ###
