The Philippine Embassy hosted a virtual town hall meeting on 18 July 2024 to engage with Filipino community leaders from across the Caribbean.
The town hall, which brought together community leaders from various Caribbean islands, provided a platform for open dialogue and to address pressing concerns. It was also an opportunity to introduce the new consular officials who will be directly involved in engaging with the Filipino community in the Caribbean.
In her opening remarks, Consul General Donna Rodriguez thanked the heads of Filipino associations for their leadership and commitment to helping Filipinos in their local communities. “Our Embassy in Washington DC may be miles away, but through the dedication of our FilCom leaders in the Caribbean, we are able to stay closely connected and address the needs of our kababayan.”
During the town hall, Consul General Rodriguez gave updates on various community programs and consular services. Filipino community leaders shared updates on the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and confirmed that no Filipinos were affected. They also raised the need for increased consular outreach missions and voter registration. Cases of distressed Filipinos in the Caribbean were also discussed.
“Our top priority in the Caribbean is to promote and protect the interests of our Filipino nationals,” said Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez. “We look forward to working even more closely with community leaders to serve our people better.”
The Embassy remains dedicated to enhancing its engagement with the Filipino community in the Caribbean through regular check-ins and events. Future town halls and initiatives are planned to ensure continuous collaboration.###
