WASHINGTON D.C. – The Philippine Embassy warmly welcomed the members of the Maynilad 1521 Lodge for a presentation of Philippine-American history in Washington, D.C. on 18 May 2024. This event aimed to deepen the understanding and pride in Philippine-American heritage among the members of Maynilad Lodge 1521.
“We are honored to host Maynilad Lodge 1521 and to celebrate our rich heritage together,” said Consul General Iric Arribas. “It is important for us Filipinos to be informed of our significant contributions to the political and social fabric of Washington, D.C. when we were still under American colonial rule and to be proud of those contributions especially since we are celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander History Month this month.”
Delivered by Professor Erwin Tiongson, the presentation provided an insightful exploration of the shared history and cultural ties between the Philippines and the United States, emphasizing the contributions and legacy of the Filipino community in Washington, D.C.
Professor Tiongson authored the book entitled “Philippine-American Heritage in Washington DC” and collaborated with the Philippine Embassy in creating a walking tour that highlights sites in Washington, D.C. that are significant to Filipino history.
Known for its active participation in community events and support for other Masonic lodges, Maynilad Lodge No. 1521 waa chartered under the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia and officially established on May 11, 2011.
