WASHINGTON D.C. – In partnership with the International Pro-Bono Alliance (IPBA), the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. hosted a webinar on the extrajudicial settlement of estate in the Philippines on 15 April 2024.

This webinar is part of a webinar series designed to enhance the understanding of pertinent Philippine laws addressing the common concerns Filipinos living abroad face.

The event aimed to provide valuable information and resources on the topic to a wide audience, including overseas Filipinos, legal professionals, and those interested in estate planning and settlement.

“Here at the Embassy, we often work with Filipinos and their families who need assistance with their documents for estate planning and settlement, such as affidavits, special power of attorney, last wills and deeds of donation,” said Consul Barbie Rosales in her opening remarks. “Whether you are an estate executor, a beneficiary, or simply someone interested in learning more about this topic, this webinar is particularly important for those of you navigating estate matters in the Philippines while living abroad.”

Atty. Tricia Santos of the IPBA discussed the process of extrajudicial settlement as a means of efficiently and amicably resolving estate matters without the need for court intervention. Participants learned about the Deed of Extrajudicial Settlement of Estate, the legal documentary requirements and procedures involved in the extrajudicial settlement process, as well as the benefits of this approach compared to traditional litigation. The webinar gained significant interest from the community, with Atty. Santos responding to various questions during the interactive open forum.

In his closing remarks, Consul General Iric Cruz Arribas thanked Atty. Santos for her expertise. “We trust that today’s session has offered a wealth of information and insights, equipping our attendees with a better understanding of estate settlement procedures. Special acknowledgement goes to the International Pro-Bono Alliance for their invaluable partnership in facilitating this webinar. Should you have any lingering questions or require further assistance, we encourage you to reach out to the International Pro Bono Alliance, who stand ready to provide support and guidance.”
