The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC successfully conducted a consular outreach mission in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI) from August 17 to 18, 2024.
The Embassy’s team, led by Consul General Donna Rodriguez, provided essential consular services, including the processing of 73 passport applications, registration of 145 overseas absentee voters, and notarial and other services.
“The protection and promotion of the welfare of Filipinos overseas is a foreign policy priority of the Philippine Government and the provision of consular services through our outreach missions is part of our efforts to fulfill this objective,” said Consul General Rodriguez. She thanked the officers and volunteers of The Filipino Association of British Virgin Islands (TFABVI) who provided much support to the consular outreach.
While in BVI, Consul General Rodriguez, together with representatives from the Migrant Workers Office and TFABVI, had the opportunity to meet with Governor Daniel Pruce on August 16, and Premier Natalio Wheatley on August 19, to discuss possible ways the Philippine and BVI governments could work together to ensure the welfare of the estimated 800 Filipinos living and working in BVI. The two BVI officials acknowledged the significant contributions of the Filipino community to the islands and reassured Consul General Rodriguez that they will work closely with the Embassy to ensure the welfare of the estimated 800 Filipinos living and working in the British Virgin Islands.
This outreach in BVI is the Embassy’s seventh consular outreach mission of the year.
