The Philippines bared its whole-of-nation approach to preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) during a meeting of the Communications Working Group (CWG) of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS/Daesh, hosted by the United States Department of State from 5 to 6 September 2024.

Ms. Anne Marie Cristina G. Quinzon, Supervising Defense Research Officer of the Office of Plans and Programs, Department of National Defense, provided a brief introduction to the Philippines’ National Action Plan (NAP) on P/CVE. Adopted in 2019, the NAP P/CVE institutionalized a harmonized national strategy in P/CVE, counting on the collaboration and partnership of various stakeholders to address the political, economic, cultural, psychosocial, and religious factors of radicalization that lead to violent extremism.

The CWG meeting provided an opportunity for Coalition members to share updates and experiences in countering ISIS messaging. The meeting emphasized the need for the Coalition’s continued commitment as the threat of ISIS propaganda persists in the online sphere.

The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS/Daesh marks its 10th anniversary this year, having been formed in 2014 with the aim of ensuring ISIS’s enduring defeat. The Philippines joined the Coalition in 2018. ###
