WASHINGTON D.C. – The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), led by Undersecretary Reynaldo Mapagu, participated in the 36th Annual Bataan Memorial Death March held in the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This year’s event was themed “More Than Just a Marathon”, a reflection of the deeper significance of the march as it honors the heroic service members who endured the infamous Bataan Death March during World War II.
The Bataan Memorial Death March is a solemn occasion that brings together people from various backgrounds to preserve the legacy of those who bravely fought for freedom during one of the darkest moments in history. The event serves as a tribute to the veterans who survived the brutal 65-mile trek, and it emphasizes the importance of remembering and honoring their sacrifice.
Undersecretary Reynaldo Mapagu, along with the Philippine Delegation, joined hundreds of participants in this momentous commemoration, which underscores the lasting bond between the Philippines and the United States and honors the shared history and heroism of their soldiers.
The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of these brave individuals are never forgotten and that their stories continue to inspire future generations.##
