The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. reminds all Filipino nationals in the United States that only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote in U.S. federal and state elections, and in most local elections.
In view of the U.S. midterm elections scheduled on 03 November 2026, Filipino nationals are enjoined to verify their U.S. citizenship prior to registering to vote or casting a ballot. Lawful permanent residents, including those with pending applications for naturalization, are not eligible to vote in federal or state elections. The receipt of voter registration forms or ballots, encouragement to register while in school, or the offer of voter registration upon application for a driver’s license does not constitute proof of eligibility to vote.
Voting by non-citizens may result in criminal prosecution, detention, removal proceedings, and the denial of applications for U.S. citizenship, even if the act occurred years prior and even if the individual was unaware that it was prohibited.
Filipino nationals who may have registered or voted while not yet U.S. citizens are strongly advised to seek the counsel of a qualified immigration attorney prior to filing an application for naturalization, cancelling a voter registration, or traveling outside the United States.
For inquiries or concerns, Filipino nationals may call 202-368-2767 or 202-769-8049, or send an email to atn@phembassy-us.org.
