In view of the ongoing unrest in the Middle East due to the conflict between Israel and Iran and the subsequent launching of US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through its National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS), issued a bulletin on Sunday, 22 June 2025, stating that the “ongoing Iran conflict is causing a heightened threat environment in the United States,” and that low level cyber attacks by pro-Iranian activists are likely. The bulletin further notes that “the likelihood of violent extremists in the Homeland independently mobilizing to violence in response to the conflict would likely increase if Iranian leadership issues a religious ruling calling for retaliatory violence against targets in the Homeland.”
In this regard, the Philippine Embassy advises members of the Filipino Community across the United States to exercise caution, ensure personal safety, and report observed suspicious activities to local authorities and public safety officials. The Filipino Community is further encouraged to actively monitor websites of federal and local authorities, such as the DHS website (www.dhs.gov/advisories), the FBI website (https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/terrorism), and other online resources from the US government, for security updates.
