WASHINGTON D.C. – The Philippine Embassy, in collaboration with the International Pro-Bono Alliance (iBPA), hosted a webinar on Property and Inheritance Laws in the Philippines on October 17, 2023. The event marked the commencement of a series of webinars organized by the Embassy, aiming to provide information and make its services more accessible to Filipinos, especially those residing in the United States.
Ambassador Romualdez, in his opening remarks, acknowledged that many Filipinos in the United States, including dual citizens, maintain strong connections with the Philippines through family ties, properties, or investments. This necessitates a comprehensive understanding of various Philippine laws and regulations concerning property acquisition, inheritance, and other related matters. The webinar was designed to serve as a platform for discussing these important topics with legal experts.
Attorney Arni Topico offered practical insights on ensuring the authenticity of a property title, identifying essential documents for property acquisition in the Philippines, explaining associated fees, and outlining the rules governing condominium ownership.
In her presentation, Attorney Florence Tolentino provided an overview of different types of succession, probate proceedings, and the procedures for judicial estate settlement.
The informative presentations were followed by a stimulating discussion involving various cases related to property and inheritance concerning Filipino citizens, dual citizens, and foreign nationals. This discussion deepened participants’ understanding of the rights and privileges of Filipino citizens in these legal matters.
Consul General Iric Arribas concluded the webinar by expressing gratitude to the speakers for sharing their expertise and encouraging participants to join the upcoming webinars organized in collaboration with iBPA.
