WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippine Embassy welcomed Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy on 20 February 2025 to discuss various opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the Philippines and the State of Alaska.

Governor Dunleavy highlighted the steps being undertaken to implement President Donald J. Trump’s “America First” priority of supporting  Alaskan liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to meet the growing demand for affordable energy and strengthen economic security.  

Chargé d’affaires Jaime Ascalon, Jr. acknowledged the importance of energy security. “In the light of our growing energy needs, the Philippines is interested in discussing the prospects of sourcing its LNG requirements from the U.S. through Alaska,” said Ascalon.

The Embassy and Governor Dunleavy also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, transportation, logistics, and people-to-people exchanges. Chargé d’affaires Ascalon noted that there are close to 36,000 Filipinos in the State of Alaska.

Chargé d’affaires Ascalon and Governor Dunleavy affirmed their commitment to exploring additional opportunities to deepen ties between the Philippines and the State of Alaska. ###
