WASHINGTON D.C. – Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez warmly welcomed the Young Voices of the Philippines (YVP) choir at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. on July 3, 2023 during their US tour.After their courtesy call on the Ambassador, the YVP delighted the Embassy’s clients with a surprise acapella performance, singing three songs.
During the call, the Ambassador was informed that the YVP was making history as the first Filipino children’s choir to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City for the upcoming “Voices Together: An International Youth Choral Festival” on 07 July 2023.
Before the visit to the Embassy, the choir had been performing in various churches in D.C. and Maryland, such as the St. Columba Catholic Church (Oxonhill, Maryland), St. Mark Presbyterian Church (Rockville Maryland), and Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (D.C.) from June 29 to July 01, 2023.
The YVP, one of the scholar choirs currently performing under the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines (TCAP) Inc., has recorded and premiered works of Filipino composers, including the recently released KATHA, a collection of Filipino folk songs for Treble Choirs, through the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and a Mass for Children by Jesuit Music Ministry/Jesuit Communications. Leading the YVP are acclaimed conductor, Dr. Maria Theresa V. Roldan, and internationally published composer and arranger Prof. Jude B. Roldan.
