HURRICANE ISAIAS EXPECTED TO BRING DAMAGING WINDS AND HEAVY RAINFALL TO ALABAMA, FLORIDA, AND GEORGIA

The Embassy of the Philippines in Washington, D.C. informs the Filipino community that Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane. According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, it is expected to make landfall between Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Destin, Florida, late Friday night or early Saturday. The storm is forecast to bring damaging winds and heavy rainfall across Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and Georgia, which could cause life-threatening flooding.

States of emergency have been declared in parts of Alabama and Florida and in the entire state of Georgia. Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect along parts of the northwest Florida coast and coastal Alabama.

Members of the Filipino community in the affected areas are advised to monitor the storm, complete all necessary preparations, and heed the instructions of local officials. Those in evacuation areas are urged to leave immediately if ordered and to stay off the roads during and after the storm.
