WASHINGTON D.C. – The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. hosted Mandaluyong City barangay and local officials during the closing ceremony of their learning program in the United States, “Fostering Inclusive Communities for a Stronger City”, organized by the Washington Global Institute (WGI).
The one-week program, which ran from 20 to 26 October 2024, allowed participants to interface with the local government of Montgomery County, Maryland and gather best practices in good governance, including innovations in planning, budgeting, community interaction, and policy formulation.
In his inspirational message to the graduates of the program, Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez emphasized the importance of local governance in national development and in serving the needs of the people.
“Let us therefore remember that governance is more than just delivering services. It is about empowering our communities, engaging citizens, and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. As you return to the Philippines, you carry with you the responsibility to cascade these principles and inspire your fellow leaders to strive for excellence in governance,” he said.
The learning program is a joint endeavor of WGI with the Department of the Interior and Local Government – National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) and De La Salle College of Saint Benilde – School of Diplomacy and Governance.###
