WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Washington, DC, in partnership with the Organization of Filipino Private Staff (OFPS) in the DMV, conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training on 27 June 2026 at the Embassy of the Philippines in Washington, DC, as part of the Migrant Workers Day celebration.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Jose Miguel Abad, an American Heart Association-certified BLS instructor, and was attended by fourteen (14) members of OFPS-DMV. The session aimed to equip participants with essential life-saving skills to help them respond effectively to medical emergencies at home, in the workplace, and within their communities.

Participants received both theoretical instruction and hands-on training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and immediate first aid while awaiting professional medical assistance. The practical exercises allowed participants to build confidence and strengthen their preparedness in responding to emergency situations.

The initiative underscores MWO-OWWA Washington, DC’s continuing commitment to promoting the health, safety, and welfare of overseas Filipino workers through capacity-building programs that enhance emergency preparedness and contribute to safer homes, workplaces, and communities.
