WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a fitting celebration of Filipino American History Month, more than 220 Filipinos proudly took their Oath of Allegiance and reacquired their Philippine citizenship during the Philippine Embassy’s consular outreach mission in Orlando, Florida.

The outreach, held from 15 to 18 October 2025 in conjunction with Pinoy Oktoberfest, brought essential consular services closer to the Filipino community in Central Florida. In addition to administering the oath of allegiance of 226 Filipinos, the Embassy team processed 452 passport applications, 86 dual citizenship petitions, 56 notarial documents, and 6 civil registry reports.

Under Republic Act No. 9225, also known as the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003, natural-born Filipinos who lost their Philippine citizenship upon naturalizing in another country may reacquire it and become dual citizens, enjoying the rights and privileges of citizenship in both countries. The Embassy clarified that despite circulating misinformation, the U.S. government continues to recognize dual citizenship.

The Embassy extends its appreciation to the Pinoy Oktoberfest organizers and volunteers for supporting the consular outreach mission.

For more information on consular services and upcoming outreach missions, Filipinos are encouraged to visit the Embassy’s website tinyurl.com/OutreachDC or email consular@phembassy-us.org.
