The Philippines and the United States held their inaugural Cyber and Digital Policy Dialogue at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. on 15-16 July 2024 to strengthen cooperation in the areas of cybersecurity and digital policy.
The two-day dialogue focused on deepening ties to address common threats in cyberspace and collaborating in building a secure, open, and resilient cyber landscape and digital economy.
The Philippine delegation was led by DICT Secretary Ivan John E. Uy. He was joined by officials from the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, National Security Council, Embassy of the Philippines in Washington D.C., Department of Transportation, Philippine National Police, Department of Trade and Industry, National Telecommunications Commission, National Privacy Commission, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Department of National Defense, and Armed Forces of the Philippines.
On the first day of the Dialogue, discussions centered on national cyber strategies and areas of cooperation in dealing with cyber threats, including malicious cyber activities, and capacity building to increase the Philippines’ capabilities in preventing and addressing cyber attacks.
Discussions on the second day focused on digital policy, infrastructure, and cooperation in capacity building to enhance technology capabilities, expand infrastructure through interoperable mechanisms, and facilitate more investments in the digital economy.
A roundtable discussion with the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) at the conclusion of the dialogue opened further exchanges on areas for cooperation, policy dialogue, and opportunities for investments. “By harnessing collective expertise and resources, we can set new benchmarks in cybersecurity and digital innovation. This collaborative effort will pave the way for a safer and more prosperous digital future, enhancing economic opportunities and societal well-being worldwide,” Secretary Uy told US-ABC and U.S. officials.
The inaugural dialogue is the first of succeeding bilateral engagements covering cybersecurity and digital policy. ###
