WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C., Philippine Consulates General in the U.S., and Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of American Affairs convened for their annual planning conference on 4-5 December 2025, where they discussed their work plans and areas of focus for 2026, a landmark year in Philippines-U.S. relations.
“Next year marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-U.S. diplomatic relations. This milestone should inspire us to accelerate our efforts, think more creatively, and work more vigorously towards new highs in our bilateral relationship,” said Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez during his remarks to open the conference.
The meeting reviewed recent developments in Philippines-U.S. security and economic relations under the new U.S. administration, highlighted by the official visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the U.S. and first in-person meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in July.
The participating Foreign Service Posts – which included the Embassy as well as Consulates General in Agana, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco – also reaffirmed their commitment to deliver timely and relevant consular and Assistance-to-Nationals services to Filipinos and Filipino-Americans, and to strengthening their cultural and public diplomacy programs in the U.S.
Representatives from partner agencies with offices in the U.S., including the Department of National Defense, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Tourism, also attended the conference.
