Nearly a hundred Filipino children living in the Caribbean applied for their very first Philippine passports, following a successful series of consular outreach missions conducted by the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Led by Consul Barbie Rosales, the Embassy team traveled from 24 April to 03 May 2025, visiting the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago to bring essential consular services closer to overseas Filipinos who face significant challenges accessing services due to geographical distance and limited mobility.

A total of 93 Filipino minors applied for their Philippine passports during the consular outreach. Among them were two of the youngest applicants ever assisted by the Embassy—newborns just five and six days old born in the Cayman Islands—whose parents took swift steps to secure their documentation.

In addition to passports, the Embassy team processed and approved 30 Report of Birth applications during the outreach, ensuring that the children were able to immediately apply for their Philippine passports.

“Processing children’s passports is always a heartwarming moment for our Embassy team,” said Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez. “We know how challenging it can be for overseas families to access consular services, especially for those living in the Caribbean. This is why we bring the Embassy closer to them, so no Filipino child is left undocumented.”

The Embassy reminds all Filipino parents overseas that children born abroad to at least one Filipino parent are also Filipino citizens. It is important that their births are reported to the Philippine Embassy or Consulate so they can be properly registered with the Philippine Statistics Authority and be issued Philippine passports.
