WASHINGTON D.C. – On 2 June 2025, the Sentro Rizal in Washington, D.C. hosted fifth-grade students from Dorothy I. Height Elementary School, and representatives from the Washington Performing Arts and DC Public School for the culmination of this year’s Embassy Adoption Program (EAP) at the Philippine Embassy.
As part of their capstone presentation at the Embassy, the students performed the Filipino folk song “Tong Tong Tong Pakitong-kitong,” staged a short play based on the Filipino folk tale “Maria Makiling,” and shared their insights about the Philippines.
As a token of appreciation, the students presented a scrapbook capturing their EAP journey—a colorful collection of their reflections, artwork, and photographs inspired by their experiences with the Embassy.
Earlier in the year, the Sentro Rizal D.C. showcased the Philippines to the classroom through interactive sessions on geography, language, heritage, and history. During these sessions, students:
- Wrote their names in Baybayin, the ancient Filipino script;
- Created miniature jeepney models;
- Made colorful interpretations of Philippine festivals and tourist destinations;
- Learned about climate change and its effects on the Philippines;
- Enjoyed Filipino greetings, proverbs, and tongue twisters as part of their final activity; and
- Sample a variety of delicious Filipino merienda snacks and beverages.
The EAP, a partnership between DC Public Schools (DCPS) and Washington Performing Arts, provides students with global perspectives through direct engagement with embassies and international institutions.
The Philippine Embassy, through its Sentro Rizal D.C., is a proud partner of the EAP and looks forward to continuing its involvement in the next school year.
