WASHINGTON D.C. – Philippine Speaker of the House of Representatives Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez met with members of the U.S.-Philippines Congressional Friendship Caucus and other U.S. lawmakers to further push for stronger parliamentary cooperation between the Philippines and the United States.
Speaker Romualdez’s meetings here are a continuation of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s engagements with members of the U.S. Congress to push for key Philippine priorities such as increased foreign military financing, the reauthorization of the Generalized System of Preferences, and stronger economic cooperation in the areas of energy and critical minerals.
At a reception for members of the 118th Congress of the U.S.-Philippines Congressional Friendship Caucus, Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Bobby Scott (Virginia) and Rep. James Moylan (Guam) reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Philippines to strongly push for the Philippines’ interests in the United States, including those of the more than four million Filipino Americans in the US. They were joined by Caucus members Rep. Darrell Issa (California), Rep. Don Bacon (Nebraska), and Rep. Gregorio Sablan (Commonwealth of Northern Marianas).
Joined by Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez, the Speaker also met separately with Senator Chris Van Hollen (Maryland), Senator Bill Hagerty (Tennessee), Rep. Gary Palmer (Alabama), Rep. Ed Case (Hawaii), Rep. Ami Bera (California), and Rep. Brad Sherman (California), Rep Darrell Issa (California), and Rep. Jim Baird (Indiana). He was also invited to a roundtable discussion by The Heritage Foundation.
